Security Deposit

This section explains how the security deposit works for VerusCars bookings: which card you can use, whether you can split it across cards, and what to do if the deposit hasn’t been released yet.

In most cases no – the rental supplier will:

  • take payment and the security deposit from one card,
  • require that card to be a credit card in the main driver’s name,
  • not allow splitting the deposit across multiple cards or using someone else’s card.

Some suppliers may let you pay the rental with a debit card, but still insist that the deposit is blocked on a credit card.

Always check the Payment / Deposit section in the Rental Conditions of your VerusCars offer to see exactly what type of card is required at pick-up.

  • After you return the car with no extra charges, the supplier usually releases the deposit within about 2–4 weeks. The exact timing depends on your bank/card issuer, not VerusCars or the rental company.
  • In many cases you won’t see a separate “refund” transaction – the original hold is just released, so your available balance increases again.
  • If the money still isn’t visible after a few weeks, first contact your bank and ask about the blocked amount, then (if needed) contact the rental supplier using the details on your VerusCars voucher.
  • If you still can’t resolve it, email VerusCars at support@veruscars.com with your booking number and we’ll help check what’s going on.
One-way, long-term, and out-of-hours rentals

Here you’ll find information about picking up or dropping off your car outside normal opening hours, returning the car to a different location, grace periods, recommended arrival times, long-term rentals, and car delivery options.

Often yes – but it depends on the supplier and location.

  • At many major airports, some partners work 24/7 or offer out-of-hours pick-up for an extra fee.
  • When you search on VerusCars and choose your pick-up and drop-off times, we only show offers where the supplier is open at those times or provides out-of-hours service. Any extra fee is either included in the total or shown in the Rental Conditions.
  • For after-hours drop-off, you’ll usually be asked to leave the keys in a secure key box. Instructions are given when you collect the car; this is often free of charge.

Shuttle buses run only during the supplier’s operating hours, unless the shuttle is operated by the airport itself. For exact details, check the Rental Conditions and, if needed, contact the supplier using the info on your VerusCars voucher.

Yes, often you can – this is called a one-way rental and it usually comes with an extra fee.

Common options include:

  • Pick up at an airport, drop off at a downtown office/train station in the same city
  • Pick up in one city, return in another city in the same country
  • In some cases, pick up in one country and drop off in another (rarer and usually much more expensive)

To see what’s possible and how much it costs, just choose different pick-up and drop-off locations when searching on VerusCars – any one-way fee will be included in the price shown.

One-way rentals must be agreed and booked in advance. Don’t return the car to a different branch than the one on your voucher unless the supplier has explicitly approved it.

The grace period is a short extra window that the rental supplier gives you around your scheduled time:

  • Pick-up: after your planned pick-up time, many suppliers allow about 30–60 minutes (sometimes a bit more)where your car is still held for you without extra fees. If you don’t arrive within this window and haven’t agreed anything with the supplier, your booking may be marked as a No-Show and cancelled.
  • Drop-off: most suppliers give up to about 1 hour after the scheduled return time. If you bring the car back later than that, they may charge an extra day or a late-return fee.

The exact grace period and working hours depend on the supplier and location.

You should aim to arrive at the pick-up time shown on your VerusCars voucher.

If you’re early, the car might not be ready yet (previous renter not returned it, cleaning, inspection, etc.).
If you’re late, the supplier will only hold the car for the length of their grace period – after that, the booking may be treated as a no-show.

You can see the exact pick-up time and any grace period rules in the Rental Conditions and on your voucher.

If you need a car for longer, you can usually:

  • make two or more consecutive bookings, and
  • return to the rental desk at the end of each contract to sign a new agreement (and sometimes get a new car).

In some countries, suppliers also limit how many back-to-back contracts you can have with the same company.

For your exact destination, check the Rental Conditions of the offer or email us at support@veruscars.com, and we’ll help you find the best long-term option.

Sometimes – it depends on the local supplier and location.

  • In many city locations, some suppliers can deliver the car to your address or hotel for an extra fee.
  • Around airports, delivery to a separate address is usually not offered – cars are typically collected at the rental desk or shuttle point.

Delivery usually comes with an additional charge, often based on the distance from the supplier’s office, and is only available within a limited radius.

If you’d like the car delivered, first check the Rental Conditions of the offer to see if delivery is mentioned. Then email us at support@veruscars.com with your booking details and delivery address, and we’ll check with the supplier whether it’s possible and what it would cost.

Mileage and fuel policies

This part covers how fuel and mileage work: whether you have unlimited kilometres or limits, and which fuel policy applies (e.g. full-to-full), so you know what to expect at pick-up and drop-off.

The exact fuel rules are set by the rental supplier, but most VerusCars offers use one of these policies:

  • Full to Full

You collect the car with a full tank and must return it full. A fuel deposit may be blocked on your card and is released when you bring the car back full.

  • Same to Same

You pick up the car with a certain fuel level (for example, half a tank) and must return it at the same level. A deposit may still be taken and refunded if you match the agreed level.

  • Full to Empty / Pre-purchase fuel

You pay for a full tank at the desk and return the car as empty as you like. Sometimes part of the fuel cost is non-refundable.

  • Always:
  • Check the fuel level when you pick up the car and make sure it matches the contract.
  • Take a photo of the fuel gauge when you return it and keep your last fuel receipt until your deposit is released.
You can see the exact fuel policy for your car in the Rental Conditions on VerusCars and on your voucher.

It depends on the offer and supplier.

You’ll see the mileage rules for each car directly in the offer details and in the Rental Conditions:

  • Many rentals come with unlimited mileage.
  • Some include limited miles/km per day, per rental or per period – any extra distance is charged by the supplier when you return the car (or deducted from your deposit).

Even if mileage is unlimited, driving into other regions or countries can be restricted or charged extra, so always check the Rental Conditions carefully for your specific booking.

Cross-border rentals

In this section we explain travelling outside the country where you rented the car: rules for crossing borders, using ferries, possible extra fees, and whether toll devices or vignettes are included.

It depends on the country, rental supplier and pick-up location. Here are some common examples — always double-check the Rental Conditions for your specific offer.

🇵🇹 Portugal – Via Verde

Many suppliers in Portugal equip their cars with a Via Verde device:

A small daily fee is usually charged to keep the device active.
Tolls are charged after you return the car, once the rental company receives the toll data.
If you don’t activate the device but still drive on toll roads, the supplier may later charge the tolls plus an admin fee.

🇺🇸 United States – e-tolls (e.g. SunPass in Florida)

In many US locations (especially Florida):

Suppliers often require you to activate their e-toll service for a daily service fee, plus the tolls you use.
The toll device is usually built into the car – you normally can’t use your own transponder.
If you decline the service but still use cashless toll roads, you may be charged penalty/admin fees per unpaid toll.
In toll-heavy states like Florida, it’s usually safest to activate the toll option at pick-up.

🇮🇹 Italy – Toll roads

On most Italian toll roads:

You pay directly at the toll booths (cash or card, depending on the lane).
These tolls are not included in your rental price.
Some suppliers may offer an electronic toll option, but this is not guaranteed and must be checked in the Rental Conditions or with the supplier.

🇨🇭 🇦🇹 🇨🇿 (and other countries with vignettes) – Vignette in Europe

If you pick up the car in a vignette country (for example Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic), the vignette (road tax) is often already included with the car.
If you enter that country from another one, you usually need to buy the vignette yourself (online, at the border, or in petrol stations).
Driving without a valid vignette can result in hefty on-the-spot fines.

🌍 Other countries / regions

In some European countries (for example parts of Spain, France, Croatia), you pay motorway tolls manually at booths or via ticket systems – these are generally not included in the rental price.
In some other regions (for example parts of Canada, Australia, South America), suppliers may offer their own toll passes or tags with a daily service fee + tolls used.

  • Important:

Toll devices, e-toll packages and vignettes are never guaranteed by VerusCars as they are provided by the local supplier. For your specific booking, always:

check the Rental Conditions → “Tolls / Vignette / Fees” section, and
if something is unclear, contact the rental supplier using the details on your VerusCars voucher.

In most cases no – many rental suppliers do not allow their cars to be taken on ferries or between islands.

Where it is allowed:

  • you usually need explicit permission from the supplier,
  • it’s often subject to an extra fee (ferry ticket not included), and
you may be fully liable for any damage that happens while the car is on the ferry.

Never take a rental car on a ferry without the supplier’s approval. For each VerusCars offer, check the “Geographic restrictions / Cross-border / Ferries” section in the Rental Conditions and, if needed, confirm directly with the supplier shown on your voucher.

Other Rental Policies

This section covers additional practical questions about using your VerusCars rental: travelling with pets, who to contact if something goes wrong, and where to find and understand the Rental Conditions and terms.

In many cases yes, but it depends on the rental supplier’s rules.

Some suppliers allow pets if they are properly secured (for example, in a carrier or with a pet harness).
Others may charge an extra cleaning fee if there’s hair, dirt or damage.
A few suppliers do not allow pets at all, often to keep cars allergy-friendly.

Always make sure your pet is safely restrained in the car – this protects both your pet and the passengers.

Before you travel, check the Rental Conditions for your offer and, if needed, contact the supplier using the details on your VerusCars voucher to confirm their pet policy.

It depends on when the issue comes up:

Before your rental starts

If you have questions about your booking, documents, payment, cross-border rules, Full Coverage, etc., you can contact VerusCars:

Email: support@veruscars.com
Or via the My Booking section on our website.

After you’ve picked up the car

Once the rental has started, anything related to the car itself or local service should go directly to the rental supplier(rental company), for example:

  • vehicle condition, breakdowns, accidents
  • local extras, deposits, fuel, fines, damage inspections

Their phone and email are shown on your VerusCars voucher and in the rental agreement you sign at the desk.

If you can’t resolve it with the supplier

If you’re not getting answers or can’t agree on a solution, contact VerusCars support with your booking number and a short description of the issue — we’ll review it and try to help mediate with the supplier.

Double-check the basics

Make sure you’re at the correct pick-up location shown on your VerusCars voucher.
Check you’re dialing the right phone number and country code (for example, adding or removing +XX depending on where you are).

Look for alternative contacts

If you’re at the office and it’s closed, look around for:

  • stickers or signs with alternative phone numbers,
  • instructions for out-of-hours pick-up or key collection.

Document the situation

Take a few photos of the closed office, including any signs, and make sure the time is visible (or keep screenshots showing the time).

Contact VerusCars

If your pick-up time has passed and you still can’t reach the supplier, contact VerusCars so we can step in:

Email: support@veruscars.com
Or via the My Booking section on our website.

Send us your booking number, a short description of what’s happening, and any photos — we’ll try to reach the supplier or help you find an alternative solution where possible.

VerusCars Terms & Conditions

These apply to using the VerusCars platform and making a booking through us as a broker. They cover how VerusCars works, payments to us, cancellations via our system, data protection, etc. They apply to every booking made on veruscars.com, regardless of which supplier you choose.
Rental Conditions (Supplier Conditions)

These are the rules of the actual car rental company that will provide your vehicle. They include:

  • driver age and licence requirements
  • accepted payment cards and security deposit rules
  • fuel & mileage policy
  • cross-border and ferry rules
  • what’s included / not included in the price

Rental Conditions change from supplier to supplier, and even between different cars of the same supplier.

Before you confirm a booking, always read both:

  • VerusCars Terms & Conditions, and
the Rental Conditions shown next to the offer and again in My Booking and on your voucher.
  • That way you know exactly what applies to VerusCars as a broker and what applies at the rental desk.

You can see the Rental Conditions for each offer in several places on VerusCars:

Before booking:

On the VerusCars website, you’ll find a “Rental Conditions” link near the car details (under or next to the car image and price). Click it to see all supplier rules for that specific offer.

After booking:

Once your booking is confirmed, the Rental Conditions are:

  • included on your VerusCars voucher, and
  • always available in the My Booking section, where you can also download the voucher.

Rental Conditions contain all key information about your rental (driver requirements, deposit, card rules, fuel, mileage, cross-border, etc.) and can vary by supplier and car category, so it’s important to read them carefully before you confirm your booking.
